Volunteer's Festive Newsletter

Tidings of comfort and joy, etc.

Hello

In this month’s newsletter…

  1. A note to say thank you

  2. Volunteer’s New Year Social

  3. Volunteer’s Afternoon Tea

Just a note to say THANK YOU:

Hi lovely volunteers - I’ll keep this fairly short, don’t worry, but I didn’t want to finish for Christmas without saying a giant, heart-felt thank you from us here at Together Dementia Support HQ for everything you have done this past year.

Your kindness, generosity and time does not go unnoticed or unappreciated by us, our members or their families. We really would not be the TDS that is known and loved by many, if we didn’t have you wonderful people on our team. Long may it continue!

I know many of you will be celebrating Christmas in one way or another in the coming week, but I know for many of you, it might not be as merry and bright as it says on the tin.

Christmas can be a difficult time for lots of us, for lots of different reasons. Whether you’re far from home or far from the people you love, whether you’re missing those who aren’t with us anymore, or the festive season brings up painful memories; whether you’re lonely or struggling with your mental health, navigating difficult relationships; or whether you just feel that it’s hard to celebrate with our world the way it is.

However you’re feeling - you aren’t alone. There’s no wrong way to feel at Christmas, and there’s no right way to celebrate.

Whether you believe it or not, at it’s core, the Christmas story is one of hope and joy found in unexpected places, where nothing looked like it was supposed to. The story we’re celebrating is the story of a Jewish baby, born in a Palestinian town during a time of political upheaval, whose family was forced to flee to Egypt as refugees shortly after his birth. Perhaps there’s something all of us can take from a story like that today.

Anyway, we are all wishing you a restful, merry and peaceful Christmas time, and a gentle and kind start to the New Year. Once again, thank you for everything you do - it is such a gift.

Take care of your precious selves this season, and see you on the flip side.

Mary
